Lamborghini DNA - Beyond design, mastering the air

Description

Lamborghini design is extraordinary and inimitable, with today’s models born from more than six decades of inspirational and future-proof originality. But as grounded within Lamborghini heritage and its brand DNA is performance, with aerodynamics a central and ongoing innovation within Lamborghini’s design studio and R&D teams. The video “Beyond design, mastering the air” celebrates the mutual relationship between Lamborghini design and aerodynamics, explained by Design Director Mitja Borkert and Ugo Riccio, Coordinator of Aerodynamics, Aero Acoustics and Vehicle Thermal Management. They ponder the relentless inspiration and drive, both personal and embedded within Lamborghini company DNA, that combines art and science to create masterpieces such as the new Lamborghini Revuelto.

  • Lamborghini’s design DNA originated with the Countach

The distinctively contemporary lines of the Lamborghini Countach, a legendary model celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, shaped the design of all subsequent Lamborghinis even up to today’s models, including the Aventador, Huracán, Sián, as well as the Urus.Low and wide, the front view of the Countach is characterized by diagonal lines on the hood, which are also repeated on the engine compartment, making it immediately recognizable even from a distance. The shape of the passenger compartment, low and squared, combined with the typical slope of the windscreen, influenced the design of the various models that have followed the Countach. It is precisely these shapes that have remained unchanged over the years, along with the particular and characteristic cut of the side windows, which make a Lamborghini easily identifiable at first glance.

  • Lamborghini Urus SE Design Preview

The Urus SE offers an unparalleled driving experience also thanks to the plug-in hybrid system, which helps to improve the vehicle’s performance and dynamics on any surface and in any condition: more torque and power at any rpm is provided by way of innovative technical solutions such as the introduction of the electric torque vectoring system between the two axles, and the electronic rear differential. The twin-turbo 4.0 V8 engine has been re-engineered to work in optimal synergy with the electric powertrain. It develops 620 CV of power (456 kW) and 800 Nm of driving torque; the combustion unit is combined with an electric powertrain delivering 192 CV (141 kW) and 483 Nm of torque. In delivering maximum output the main focus has been on the calibration strategy between ICE and e-motor, reaching a total output of 800 CV to ensure an optimal power curve in every driving mode and on every surface. A 25.9-kWh lithium-ion battery is situated below the load floor and above the electronically-controlled rear differential. The permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor located inside the 8-speed automatic transmission can act as a boost for the V8 combustion engine but also as a traction element, making the Urus SE a 100% electric 4WD vehicle capable of traveling more than 60 km in EV mode.Debuting on the Urus SE is the new centrally-located longitudinal electric torque vectoring system with an electro-hydraulic multi-plate clutch, which distributes driving torque variably and continuously between the front and rear axles. The transfer case works in synergy with the new electronic limited-slip differential installed on the rear axle, giving the vehicle “on demand” oversteering to convey the feel of a purebred super sports car.

The Super SUV joins the Huracán LP610-4, and will be used for special services including the urgent medical transport of organs and plasma. The Urus Performante was fitted out by Lamborghini technicians at Sant’Agata Bolognese, starting from the exterior, following police specifications. The livery was designed by Lamborghini Centro Stile and combines the classic blue color of the Italian State Police and white, with tricolor bands on the sills and seat belt. The police logos have been applied to the doors in reflective film, while a light bar with 360° blue LED lights has been installed on the roof, together with a two-tone electric siren. The cockpit has been customized with various elements that are indispensable for the public security service, including an armored weapon box; a flip-down message display; and a special compartment in the trunk for stowing service equipment and a defibrillator for first aid response. Most importantly, a portable fridge for the transportation of organs is fitted, including a display and data logger for the continuous monitoring of the internal temperature.
