US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday said a temporary truce between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas had produced results and the United States hoped it would continue.
Sixteen hostages were released on Wednesday by Hamas, on the final day of a two-day extension of a truce in the Gaza war between Israel and the Palestinian militants. The group of civilians included Israelis, dual nationals and Thai citizens, officials said.
Following the Hamas militant group's 7 October attacks and Israel's subsequent ground offensive in Gaza, there have been apparent reprisals against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.
