The first commercial trucks have entered the Gaza Strip since the war, joining UN-led deliveries, the United States says. It is "a critical step towards improving the lives of the Palestinian people in Gaza that we see not just humanitarian aid delivered, but also commercial goods that can be sold in stores and markets," US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller tells reporters. Trucks carrying humanitarian aid enter the Gaza Strip via the Rafah crossing at the border with Egypt. The aid's arrival comes after the truce between Israel and Hamas expired on Friday, with Israel telling NGOs not to bring aid convoys through the crossing, the Palestine Red Crescent Society had said. But on Saturday, the charity announced its Egyptian colleagues had managed to send over a number of trucks. IMAGES
