Belarus plane diversion sparks global outrage as EU mulls response to opposition figure arrest

Anger over the forced landing of a Ryanair airplane in Belarus is overtaking today’s EU summit dinner today in Brussels. The plane was travelling from Athens, Greece to Vilnius, Lithuania when Belarussian authorities flagged what turned out to be a false bomb alert, forcing the plane to land. Once it touched down in Minsk, authorities arrested a Belarus opposition activist and journalist who was among the 120 passengers onboard.
