Thousands of supporters give Ivory Coast's controversial former president Laurent Gbagbo a hero's welcome as he makes a triumphant return to his home village. Abidjan, Jun 17 (EFE/EPA).- Former president Laurent Gbagbo on Thursday returned to Ivory Coast for the first time in nearly 10 years, after he was cleared of crimes against humanity.Gbagbo returned from his exile in Brussels after ICC appeals judges on 31 March 2021 upheld the acquittals of Gbagbo and Goude who were both in 2019 acquitted from the charges of war crimes allegedly committed during post-electoral violence in Ivory Coast between December 2010 and April 2011.
