India will overtake China as the world's most populous country this week, hitting almost 1.43 billion people, the United Nations says. "India is projected to overtake China as the world's most populous country during the current month - April of 2023," says John Wilmoth, Director, Population Division, UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs. "Projections indicate that the size of the Chinese population could drop below 1 billion before the end of the century. Beijing, May 11 (EFE/EPA).- China's population grew by 5.38 percent in the last 10 years to reach 1.4 billion inhabitants, the National Bureau of Statistics announced on Tuesday.The total number of inhabitants, according to the 2020 census, the first since 2010, is 1.4 billion against the 1.3 billion recorded in the 2010 census.The latest census reflects an average annual growth of 0.53 percent in the last decade compared to 0.57 percent in the 2000-2010 period and 1.07 percent between 1990 and 2000.
