Ashes are still smouldering at the foot of charred trees on a hillside overlooking vineyards near Fontcouverte, in the southern Aude region of France. They were caused by a fire that burned 850 hectares of vegetation in the Alaric mountain, forcing 800 firefighters to take action throughout the night.
