Now she is training to be the first Arab woman to reach space, an achievement for which she hopes to break all the stereotypes of a patriarchal society that does not see her in this profession.Al Matrooshi will be part of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) team of four astronauts, which includes Haza al Mansoori, the first astronaut to fly into space in September 2020 for an eight-day mission to the International Space Station.FOOTAGE OF AND INTERVIEW WITH NORA AL MATROOSHI.
Japan's space agency, JAXA, names its first new astronaut candidates in over 13 years, with a surgeon and a climate scientist chosen from more than 4,000 applicants. Ayu Yoneda, a 28-year-old surgeon, will become just the third woman ever to join the two-year space training programme.
