New York (USA), Jul 7 (EFE / EPA) .- (CAMERA: Alba Vigaray) Thousands of nurses, doctors, firefighters, waiters, delivery men and other front-line workers paraded Wednesday without masks through the streets of New York to celebrate the end of restrictions imposed by the pandemic.
More than 74 million Americans--and those they live with--are at increased risk for severe COVID-19. An analysis published Monday by JAMA Internal Medicine reveals those 74 million are classified as 'essential workers' in the US. Researchers say the workers' risk is based on disease risk guidelines developed by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. UPI reports that of the more than 157 million workers across the country, 72% are in jobs deemed essential by the US Department of Homeland Security. What's more, UPI reports over three-fourths of all essential workers are unable to work at home.

Images of New York Times employees holding a one-day strike outside the company's offices in Manhattan in the first industrial action of its kind at the newspaper in more than 40 years. Journalists and other workers at the storied media outlet, often referred to as America's paper of record, walked out at midnight for 24 hours after failing to reach an agreement with the company on a new round of contract negotiations.
