According to the Amnesty International, Sri Lanka has one of the world’s highest number of enforced disappearances, with a backlog of between 60,000 and 100,000 disappearances since the late 1980s. People protest to demand justice for 43 Mexican students at the Ayotzinapa Rural Teachers' College who disappeared in the southwest state of Guerrero in September 2014. The students went missing as they were traveling by bus to participate in demonstrations in Mexico City. Investigators said that they were detained by corrupt police and handed over to a drug cartel, though exactly what happened to them is unclear.
