Police evict migrant camp in northern Chilean city of Iquique

Description

Iquique, Sep 24 (EFE).- The Chilean Carabineros police force vacated Friday the tents of a migrant camp in the Plaza Brazil in the northern city of Iquique, where a hundred of migrants had been camping out for months as a result of the migratory crisis in this area.During the eviction, there were some confrontations between the migrants and the police agents, as well as between the campers and the residents of the city, who were against their continued presence in the area because of unsanitary conditions. Hundreds of migrants are stranded in the small Chilean town of Colchane, on the border with Bolivia, and thousands in the nearest city, Iquique, after entering the country through clandestine border crossings.
