Beijing, Jul 10 (EFE/EPA).- China's annual national college entrance examination, commonly known as Gaokao, concluded nationwid on Friday. Hundreds of parents, sunshades in hand, anxiously waited for their children to come out after the tests, which will play an indelible role in deciding the course of their lives. For many families, especially in rural areas, having a child accepted to college can be their biggest opportunity to get out of poverty, but only about half of eligible young people end up securing a slot at a university. Gaokao usually takes place in June but it was postponed for one month this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. During the exams, schools all over the nation have police and concerned parents monitoring noise outside the testing areas. This year about 10.7 million students across the country went through the exams.
