Spain captures about 15 tons of hashish off the African coast

Gran Canaria, Jun 1 (EFE) .- (CAMERA: Chema Rodriguez) The Spanish security forces captured near the Canary Island of Fuerteventura (Atlantic) a fishing vessel with almost 15 tons of hashish, in an operation that confirms the new drug trafficking route to Europe.

    In the deadliest shipwreck recorded in 2020, at least 140 migrants have drowned off the coast of Senegal. The UN's International Organization for Migration says the boat was bound for Spain's Canary Islands. It was carrying about 200 people. CNN reports the vessel caught fire a few hours after departing Mbour. It eventually capsized near Saint-Louis, on the Senegalese northwest coast. The IOM is deeply saddened by this recent tragedy, which follows four shipwrecks recorded in the Central Mediterranean last week and another in the English Channel. Statement, United Nations International Organization for Migration CNN reports the Senegalese government and the IOM will travel to Saint-Louis to assess the needs of survivors and provide immediate assistance.

    Santa Cruz de La Palma, Oct 5 (EFE).- Some 250,000 tons of sulfur dioxide (SO2) have been expelled into the air since the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Spanish island of La Palma started erupting on September 19, the Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands (Involcan) reported.The volume of gas is possibly higher due to the limitations of the equipment being used to measure emissions, Involcan added.
