Castillo, Fujimori close campaigns ahead of second round of elections

Description

Lima, Jun 3 (EFE).- With promises of economic and political change, to "save" Peru from "communism" and to defeat Covid-19, presidential candidates Pedro Castillo and Keiko Fujimori closed their campaigning ahead of the second round of elections on Sunday.Leftist Castillo and the right-wing Fujimori staged massive rallies on Thursday in the central Plaza Dos de Mayo and the district of Villa El Salvador, respectively, despite gatherings being prohibited due to the health emergency.Without the authorities intervening, the rallies were the culmination of one of the most polarized campaigns of recent decades in a country faced with proposals for economic and political change on one hand, and a defense of the neoliberal model that has prevailed for three decades, on the other. • Keiko Fujimori offers campaign without attacks in second round with Castillo

Lima, Apr 14 (EFE) .- Presidential candidate Keiko Fujimori offered to carry out a campaign without attacks in the second presidential round of Peru next June where she will be facing Pedro Castillo candidate of the extreme left.(Camera: MIKHAI HUACÁN)SHOT LIST: KEIKO FUJIMORI'S POLITICAL RALLY.SOUND BITES: PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE KEIKO FUJIMORI (IN SPANISH)TRANSLATIONS:If we had wanted to at this stage, we would attack the opponent's clear weaknesses. I want to say clearly that in no way am I going to heed these recommendations, I am not going to fall for the fear campaign, and I ask everyone, all of our friends who support me, not to fall for that easyness of the fear campaign . Thousands of Peruvians are dying from lack of attention, lack of oxygen, work, vaccines. Please, Peru needs us united. And yes, all of that has happened because there have been twenty years of criticism, confrontation, hatred, revenge. That has to stop. That is why what I propose to you as we read in the (...) paragraph is that instead of opening more wounds we have to heal them, that we have to get closer instead of moving away, that we have to forgive instead of attacking.
