US to expand Afghan refugee admissions by thousands: State Department

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken tells reporters that the US has opened its special immigrant visa program to 8,000 more Afghans, expanding the eligibility of refugee admissions beyond the roughly 20,000 Afghans who have applied under a program for interpreters who assisted US forces and diplomats.
