Images of Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and social democrats cheering following the result of the Danish referendum concluding to a clear yes for the country to join the EU common defence policy. An overwhelming majority of Danes, almost 67 percent, voted in favour of joining the policy 30 years after opting out, results showed with 97 percent of ballots counted. IMAGES
Traditionally eurosceptic Denmark votes in a referendum on whether to overturn its opt-out on the EU's common defence policy after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The vote comes on the heels of neighbouring Finland's and Sweden's historic applications for NATO membership, as the Ukraine war forces countries in Europe to rethink their security policies. IMAGES
The first shipment of US assistance to Ukraine arrives in Boryspil, which Washington said was meant to "bolster its defenses in the face of growing Russian aggression", a day after Washington and Moscow's top diplomats agreed to keep working to ease tensions over Ukraine. "The shipment includes close to 200,000 pounds of lethal aid, including ammunition for the front line defenders of Ukraine," the US embassy in Kyiv tweeted. IMAGES
