Managua, Jul 18 (EFE/EPA).- The atmosphere in the central square of Plaza de la Fe in Managua was not very cheerful as usual on Sunday as Nicaraguans are gearing up to celebrate the 42nd anniversary of the revolution that overthrew dictator Anastasio Somoza. Contrary to other years, the red-black flags of the ruling Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) and the "revolutionary" songs did not predominate in the streets of Nicaragua, except in some cities such as Boaco, Granada or Jinotega, where a group of Sandinista militants made a tour of the city. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing was enforced during the 41st anniversary of the Nicaraguan revolution, which was usually celebrated with massive parades by the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN), with the President Daniel Ortega at the helm.
