Record high electricity prices in Spain, blow to most vulnerable

Madrid, Aug 13 (EFE).- (Camera: Guillermo Azabal, Federico Segarra)The harsh reality of families living in Cañada Real, a shanty town just outside of Madrid, has worsened since a heat wave has gripped Spain and the price of electricity in the country has hit record highs.In October 2020, the electricity supply to Sector 6 of Cañada Real - a shanty town of illegal settlements and one of Spain’s largest drug markets - was cut off, forcing families to depend on gasoline powered generators.
