The Var fire brigade has released images of a violent blaze that broke out in the Var region in southern France. Hundreds of firefighters have been battling the flames in the hinterland of Saint-Tropez since Monday, where thousands of people, including tourists, have been evacuated. IMAGES
In Gonfaron, in France's southern Var region, firemen tackle blazes fanned by the mistral wind. More than 600 firefighters from the Var and neighbouring departments (Bouches-du-Rhône, Alpes-Maritimes, Hautes-Alpes, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Gard) as well as from the south-west are mobilized. IMAGES
Hundreds of firefighters have been deployed to tackle the blaze which has now burnt through 5,000 hectares.
