The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand is accelerating its electrification push with the ACCELERATE strategy with the aim to make more sustainable mobility accessible to even more people. In 2025, two years earlier than originally planned, a new model in Volkswagen’s electrified portfolio is expected to enter the small car segment with a starting price of around 20,000 euros. Called ID. LIFE, Volkswagen presented a concept version of the compact crossover at the International Motor Show IAA MOBILITY 2021 in Munich.The vision of a fully electric small car for urban areas focuses on people and shared experiences. It combines more sustainable elements and digitalization with an exceptionally flexible usage approach. For example, the ID. LIFE concept could be used as a cinema, gaming center or simply to relax in the open air.
The covers are off the CUPRA DarkRebel showcar. Created from obsession, it is the maximum provocation of CUPRA design. A sports car that pushes the boundaries of design and performance and questions the way cars will be imagined and created in the future. It’s the physical translation of the first car fully created in CUPRA’s virtual space, for a future generation of drivers.More than 270,000 CUPRA configurations from the CUPRA Tribe, including brand ambassadors like FC Barcelona players like Alexia Putellas, Marc ter Stegen, and the actor Daniel Brühl helped shape the design of the CUPRA DarkRebel showcar. Data collected from the online Hyper Configurator was injected into the final design of the CUPRA DarkRebel showcar, which has now moved from the virtual to the real world with the reveal of the physical version at the IAA in Munich.The result is a 100% electric two-seat sports car with a shooting brake architecture that reflects the passion and disruptive mindset of the CUPRA brand. Incorporating an enigmatic mercury-like exterior liquid body colour, light as a tangible material and heightened attention to sustainability.
July 2022 sees the introduction of new vehicle safety legislation, mandating the fitment of important safety systems such as autonomous braking and speed assistance on new vehicle types. Volkswagen has completed its inaugural entry in the Rebelle Rally, with driver Mercedes Lilienthal and navigator Emily Winslow running the modified Volkswagen ID.4 AWD Pro electric SUV through eight grueling days of off-road competition in the deserts of Nevada and California.The Rebelle Rally, now in its sixth year, is the first all-women rally raid event of its kind in the United States, challenging teams and vehicles across 1,400 miles through the deserts of Nevada and California. Pairs of drivers and navigators use their skills, including traditional map and compass navigation and limited supplies, to overcome challenges along the course from Las Vegas to the Imperial Sand Dunes in California, along trails that respect the desert environment.Lilienthal and Winslow competed in the ID.4 AWD Pro in the X-Cross category. Tanner Foust Racing and Rhys Millen Racing modified the vehicle with new suspension components, tubular control arms, fabricated skid plates, battery protection and other items to fully equip the vehicle for the driving expedition.
