The official opening ceremony of the $1.4-billion X-ray Free Electron Laser took place in Schenefeld, Germany on Friday. The laser will be able to capture how molecules move and change within chemical reactions. Using an advanced Large Pixel Detector, the XFEL will produce “molecular movies” for the first time in science history.
