Anxious parents wait for news outside a primary school in central Kenya, after an overnight fire in a dormitory kills at least 17 children and injured several others. Police say the blaze in Nyeri county's Hillside Endarasha Academy broke out at around midnight, while the children were sleeping. There are fears there could be more victims in the damaged building. Some 800 pupils, between the ages of roughly five and 12 attend the institution. IMAGES
The Health Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Samuel-Roger Kamba, thanks the European Union after the first vaccines against Mpox, donated by the EU arrived in the country, the epicentre of the epidemic, which is due to receive a total of 200,000 doses this week. "My initial reaction is one of joy and satisfaction at the cooperation we have with the European Union," Kamba adds. SOUNDBITE

A first delivery of mpox vaccines is expected to arrive in the Democratic Republic of Congo in the coming days, the World Health Organization's chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus says during a UN press briefing in Geneva. The WHO declared an international emergency over mpox on August 14, concerned by the surge in cases of a new strain, the Clade 1b, in the DR Congo and its spread to nearby countries. SOUNDBITE
