In the business district of La Défense, at the gates of Paris, commuters are beginning to return as France eases lockdown restrictions. For 55 days, the place was almost deserted, brought to a halt by the coronavirus pandemic. IMAGES

The dismantling of the scaffolding around the spire of Notre-Dame de Paris, which was burnt in a fire in 2019, is underway and is expected to take a few months. The spire should be fully visible for the Paris Olympic Games, as the public institution confirmed to AFP. IMAGES
Carpenters at Paris Notre Dame Cathedral cheer as the last dowel is hammered in its wooden frame structure rebuilt identically to the original medieval-age one. Following the tradition, a bouquet made up from a branch coming from one of trees used in the reconstruction project is placed at the top of the choir frame, marking the end of this rebuilding stage. Notre Dame was ravaged by fire on 15 April 2019 and is due to reopen in less than a year. IMAGES
Paris's Notre Dame Cathedral gets a new golden rooster, part of its renaissance from the ashes of the 2019 fire that severely damaged it, and ahead of its reopening next year.
