Strikes and flares light up the night sky above northern Gaza as Israel struck militant targets on Sunday during the third day of fighting after the end of week-long truce. International concerns over the spiralling civilian death toll mounted over the weekend, with Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry saying that 15,500 people had been killed by Israel's military operation since the beginning of the war. Israel's air and ground campaign was launched in response to the deadly Hamas attack on October 7, which killed 1,200 people and saw a further 240 taken hostage. IMAGES
