The International Monetary Fund slightly lowers its outlook for the global economy, predicting the global economy will grow by 2.8 percent this year and three percent in 2024, a decline of 0.1 percentage point from its previous forecasts in January. SOUNDBITE
The European Central Bank slashes its growth outlook for the eurozone to 2.8 percent in 2022 and 2.1 percent in 2023, as Russia's invasion of Ukraine wreaks havoc on the world economy. SOUNDBITE
Surging inflation and severe slowdowns in the United States and China prompted the IMF to downgrade its outlook for the global economy this year and next, while warning that the situation could get much worse. SOUNDBITE
IMF chief Christine Lagarde says the US economy is expected to grow slightly faster this year than projected in April, as the IMF upgrades its GDP forecast for 2019 to 2.6 percent, while growth in 2020 is seen to be slowing to two percent. SOUNDBITE
The OECD cuts its forecast for the world economy, urging governments to resolve their trade disputes as the latest flare-up in the China-US trade war threatens to crimp global growth. Governments "must act urgently to reinvigorate growth that benefits all," the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development says as it pared back its forecast for global growth to 3.2 percent this year from 3.3 percent earlier. The International Monetary Fund slightly raises its forecast for 2023 US economic growth. "The US economy has proven resilient, consumer demand has held up particularly well, initially boosted by a drawdown of pent up savings, and more recently by solid growth in real disposable income. This is good news," says IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva. SOUNDBITE
