Rep. Jim Clyburn is one of the most respected members of the congress. He's a Democratic powerhouse who is credited with resurrecting Joe Biden's struggling Presidential campaign. According to Business Insider, Democrats won the White House but had substantial losses in the House and Senate. Clyburn says the Democrats loss were because of calls to "defund the police." Clyburn specifically referenced Jaime Harrison, the challenger to Sen. Lindsey Graham who lost the South Carolina Senate race. "Jaime Harrison started to plateau when 'defund the police' showed up with a caption on TV right across his head."
Business Insider reports that outgoing Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said "multiculturalism" is un-American. "Our enemies stoke these divisions because they know they make us weaker," he said. "Woke-ism, multiculturalism, all the -isms — they're not who America is."
Americans overwhelmingly say that Trump is responsible on some level for the Capitol siege. 76% said Trump bears a "great deal" or "a lot" of responsibility. Less than one-fifth said the president is blameless for the riot at the Capitol. Trump was impeached over the Capitol siege on Wednesday, says Business Insider. This is the second impeachment for Trump, making him the only President to be impeached twice.
Georgia voters in the runoff elections will determine control of the US Senate. Many are confident that the votes will be counted accurately, according to CNN. That is a sharp contrast with the 3/4th who say the election in November was conducted fairly. These views are sharply divided by party, which is not much of a surprise. Both Republican candidates for Senate have expressed support for rejecting Electoral College votes. President-elect Joe Biden won by fewer than 12,000 votes in Georgia.
The US Federal government's Paycheck Protection Program, or PPP, doled out hundreds of billions of dollars to businesses. The PPP's goal was to assist businesses during the nearly inevitable slowdowns due to the coronavirus pandemic. But according to Business Insider, many minority-owned businesses were left waiting for funds until the final weeks of the program. Many of our businesses were being turned down in the first and second round of funding. That caused application fatigue and frustration. The homes of both US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have been vandalized. CNN reports the incidents took place after the Senate stalled Friday on increasing stimulus checks to $2,000 for millions of Americans. Pelosi and McConnell are the two highest-ranking members of Congress. After McConnell's Louisville home was marked with graffiti early Saturday morning, the Kentucky Republican denounced the incident as a "radical tantrum." CNN reports police say an unidentified suspect or suspects vandalized one of Pelosi's homes in San Francisco. The person or persons painted graffiti on the garage door and left a pig's head on the sidewalk.
