Tens of thousands of travellers faced flight delays and cancellations Friday as workers at eight airports in Germany went on strike to demand better pay. The full-day walkout, called by the Verdi trade union, prompted Germany's biggest carrier Lufthansa to cancel more than 1,300 flights at its two busiest hubs, Frankfurt and Munich.
Passengers have been stranded at Germany's busiest airports as strikes add to the ongoing travel chaos in Europe.

More than 1,000 flights will be scrapped, affecting around 134,000 passengers. The strike is scheduled to last from 0145 GMT on Wednesday until 0400 GMT on Thursday and comes as ground workers seek a higher pay rise than the one offered by Lufthansa so far. IMAGES
The country's busiest airport Charles de Gaulle is the worst hit, with 1-in-5 flights on Saturday expected to be cancelled.
