Under the proposed reforms, a simple majority of Israeli lawmakers will be able to override rulings issued by the country's Supreme Court.
Thousands of Israelis are protesting outside the country's parliament today, ahead of a preliminary vote on a bill that would give politicians greater power over the appointment of judges, this as part of a judicial overhaul proposed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government. Last night Israel's president appealed to Netanyahu to delay the plan, urging him instead to seek a compromise with his political opponents. FRANCE 24's Carys Garland has more.
