A top airline industry official called on Tuesday for calm surrounding recent travel chaos at some airports as people resume flying after the pandemic, blaming the gridlock on temporary delays in getting clearances for new staff. Joining FRANCE 24 is Xavier Tytelman, Aeronautical consultant and former Military Aviator. Commenting on post-pandemic air travel, he says that "we have a rebound that we didn't expect." There has already been record air travel to some destinations, given that "people were not able to come and see their families for two years." Mr. Tytelman now expects to see the highest record ever for air travel during the summer travel season. But the challenges that lie ahead for the tourism industry pale in comparison to freight transport. "We are expecting about a 70 percent increase in the cargo needs in the next few years," explains Mr. Tytelman. "So it's absolutely massive and much more important than what we are facing in the tourism industry."
