Un mystérieux bâtiment en Chine serait devenu l’étape finale où atterrissent de nombreux téléphones portables volés à travers le monde. Imaginons que l’on me vole mon téléphone : pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas bien Apple, « Find My » est une fonctionnalité très pratique. Elle permet de localiser vos appareils Apple — AirPods, AirTag, Mac ou iPhone — et, dès que l’appareil est rallumé, d’afficher sa position sur une carte. Ces derniers mois, une grande partie des téléphones volés en Europe et en Amérique du Nord ont réapparu en suivant deux étapes récurrentes. Depuis Paris, par exemple, mon téléphone peut faire une escale à Hong Kong — soit environ 9 600 kilomètres — puis se retrouver ailleurs en Chine, plus précisément dans la ville de Shenzhen. Grâce à « Find My », il est parfois possible d’identifier l’emplacement précis : bienvenue dans la « tour iPhone », aussi connue sous le nom de Feyang Times Building. Il s’agit d’un immense complexe où l’on trouve toutes sortes de pièces détachées pour iPhone. Selon plusieurs témoignages de visiteurs, on y voit aussi des téléphones exposés et vendus, parfois toujours verrouillés. Reste à comprendre comment ces appareils ont atterri dans ces vitrines. D’après un ingénieur interrogé par NBC News, des systèmes comme « Find My » et d’autres dispositifs de blocage à distance rendent la revente de téléphones volés de plus en plus compliquée. Face à cela, les voleurs se tournent vers le marché chinois, où l’appétence pour les téléphones prime, quelles que soient leurs conditions. Si mon téléphone finit à Shenzhen, deux scénarios sont possibles : soit il est revendu en l’état à un acheteur indifférent au verrouillage, soit il est démonté pour que ses composants soient revendus séparément.

The United States denounces Hong Kong's ban on a protest song sung by pro-democracy demonstrators, saying it further tarnishes the financial hub's reputation. The US says it is "alarmed" after Hong Kong legislators fast-tracked a new national security law that introduces penalties such as life imprisonment for crimes related to treason and insurrection, and up to 20 years in jail for the theft of state secrets.
