A Russian court sentences top human rights campaigner Oleg Orlov to two and a half years in jail for denouncing Russia's offensive against Ukraine. The judge finds Orlov guilty for "committing a crime under article 280" ("calls for extremist activity") and orders "imprisonment for a period of two years and six months." Orlov was accused of discrediting the Russian army after writing a column written for the French online publication Mediapart, and fined in October after a first trial. IMAGES

The UN nuclear watchdog is "making progress" inspecting several areas of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant in Ukraine, after claims it had been mined, IAEA chief Rafael Grossi said Friday. "I think we are making progress," he said in Tokyo, explaining officials had visited sites including cooling pools, but had not yet been given access to the roof, where Ukraine claims possible explosive devices have been placed. Lavrov is at the helm of the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council in April.
