Aerial images filmed from a helicopter flying over the ongoing fires in Gironde (south-west France), in the Landiras and Guillos areas, which have already ravaged 1,700 hectares of pine trees, forcing the evacuation of 6,000 campers. IMAGES
Helicopter images show the forest and campsites of the Gironde coastline, in southwestern France, which was ravaged by flames as well as the creation of a deforestation zone by firefighters to prevent the fire from spreading to the Landes. The wildfires burned nearly 21,000 hectares of forest in the region.
Smoke rises from fires in Dartford, south of the UK's River Thames, and in Wennington, close by on the north side. Multiple fires have been sparked across the UK after temperatures rose above 40C for the first time ever. IMAGES
The Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin pays tribute to "the firefighters, the military, the elected representatives, the police and the gendarmes who are fighting" against the forest fires in Gironde. The deputies in the National Assembly rise to applaud. SOUNDBITE
