The UK government stepped in to help the hardest-hit households struggling with the rising cost of living, announcing a £9 billion package to offset soaring energy bills. It followed an announcement by that energy regulator that the price cap on how much suppliers can charge consumers will jump by 54 percent due to soaring wholesale gas prices.
Britain's largest energy suppliers could face a price cap after a competition watchdog found they overcharged households by around 1.2 billion pounds eash year between 2009 and 2013. As Sarah Charlton reports Britons have seen their bills double in the last decade.
