Russian forces retreated from the west bank of the Dnipro River earlier this month, but have been shelling towns and villages, including the city of Kherson, from new vantage points on the opposite bank. The Russian Defence Ministry said the assailants were nationals of a former Soviet state and labelled the attack as "terrorism".
A pedestrian bridge with glass panels known as the "Klitschko bridge" in central Kyiv shows damage, but remains standing, following several Russian strikes on Ukraine's capital. The bridge was opened in 2019, and is named after the city's mayor, Vitaly Klitschko. IMAGES
The death toll from a Russian strike on a train station in central Ukraine rose to 25 overnight, the state rail operator said on Thursday. The strike targeted a station in the city of Chaplyne in the region of Dnipropetrovsk, on Wednesday. FRANCE 24's James André reports from Kyiv, Ukraine.
At least 22 people were killed and dozens wounded when Russian missiles struck the central Ukrainian town and its railway station on the country's independence day, officials said.
