Queen Elizabeth II left Buckingham Palace on Wednesday for the final time as her coffin began its journey to Westminster Hall, where the late monarch will lie in state. The queen's coffin, draped in the royal standard and topped with the Imperial State Crown, was borne on a horse-drawn gun carriage out of the front gates of her London residence at 2.22 pm.

Crowds gather in droves in London, to pay their respects to Queen Elizabeth II as her coffin arrives at Buckingham Palace. On Wednesday, the queen's body will be borne on a horse-drawn gun carriage from her Buckingham Palace home to Westminster Hall where she will remain for four days until her funeral next week.
A number of London police have stepped back from firearms duties after a fellow officer was charged with murder over the fatal shooting of a young black man, a force spokesman said Sunday. Police in Britain are not routinely armed and the small proportion who are authorised to carry guns are highly trained.
