Sweden joining NATO shows Russian President Vladimir Putin "failed" in his Ukrainian war strategy of weakening the alliance, its chief Jens Stoltenberg says. The Kremlin's invasion not only prompted formerly non-aligned nations Sweden and Finland to come under NATO's defence umbrella, but now "Ukraine is closer to NATO membership than ever before," Stoltenberg adds. The White House confirms that a national security threat raised by US lawmakers involves Russia developing an anti-satellite weapon. "I can confirm that it is related to an anti-satellite capability that Russia developing," National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby tells reporters, adding however that there was "no immediate threat to anyone's safety."
