More than 400 million European voters will choose a new five-year EU parliament between June 6 and 9 next year, announces the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola. "Every person, in every member state, will go to vote" she says, "your vote matters". Elections in the EU's 27 member states will decide the make-up of the roughly 700-seat assembly, charged with overseeing European legislation. SOUNDBITE
President Joe Biden says that his efforts to create US jobs were not intended to be at Europe's expense after complaints by French President Emmanuel Macron over state support to green industry. "My point is -- we're back in business, Europe is back in business. On the last day of a NATO summit in Madrid, United States President Joe Biden says that the United States intends to announce "more than 800 million" dollars in military aid to Ukraine in the next few days including "new advanced Western air defence systems for Ukraine, more artillery and ammunition, counter-battery radars, additional ammunition for the HIMARS multiple-launch rocket systems we've already given Ukraine and more HIMARS from other countries as well."
