Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims cheer Pope Francis as the pontiff arrives at a Lisbon park for an homage to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ at a global jamboree. It marks the pope's second mass event with participants at this year's World Youth Day, which is actually a six-day extravaganza and happens to be the largest Catholic gathering in the world. Local authorities estimate the crowd size at about 800,000 people. IMAGES

More than a million people from over 200 countries are expected to visit the Portuguese capital for the World Youth Day, which is in fact a six-day international Catholic jamboree. IMAGES

Auschwitz-Birkenau, one of the most infamous and reviled sites in Europe, hosted the head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis himself. Pope Francis visited the concentration camp on Friday during his visit to Poland. The leader of Catholicism came to Poland to celebrate World Youth Day and chose to devote Friday to commemorate suffering. The Pope sat in silent contemplation and prayer upon arrival at a site where some of most tragic human suffering of modern European history happened.
After taking a tumble earlier in the day, Pope Francis appears in good spirits as he is greeted by thousands at the welcoming ceremony for World Youth Day at Blonia Park in Poland. Rough Cut (no reporter narration).
