The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says that ten people have been killed in a shooting in a predominantly Asian city in southern California, and "at least ten additional victims that were transported to numerous local hospitals". Huntington Beach, Oct 3 (EFE/EPA).- A large oil spill from a platform in the pacific equivalent to about 3,000 barrels of oil is hitting southern California and threatening the shores of Huntington Beach, one of the most popular and famous coastal areas in the Golden State.The oil leak began Saturday at the Elly offshore platform, off Huntington Beach and has already thrown some 570,000 liters of oil into the sea, according to authorities, who already speak of this event as one of the worst natural disasters in this area " in decades." They have warned of its danger to the place’s flora and fauna.Huntington Beach Mayor Kim Carr said the 3,000-barrel estimate is likely to fall short as the company responsible for the spill, Beta Offshore, is believed to have yet to fully stem the leak. But CNN reports the voting technology sent Fox News a blistering legal threat accusing of participating in a 'disinformation campaign' against it. In response, Fox has begun airing a remarkable news package debunking claims its hosts and guests have propagated. CNN reports the package aired for the first time Friday night on Lou Dobbs' show. Fox News said the same package would air Saturday night on Jeanine Pirro's program as well as Sunday morning on Maria Bartiromo's show.
A wind-whipped wildfire ravaged the remote California mountain community of Walker on Tuesday, killing one person. HuffPost reports the ferocious inferno struck suddenly at midday during strong winds high in the eastern Sierra Nevada. The fire destroyed more than 80 structures, including homes, in the unincorporated town near the Nevada state line. By early Wednesday, rain and snow reduced the fire to smoldering remnants after it scorched over 32 square miles. Residents fled Walker and the towns of Coleville and Topaz. The Carson Valley Inn, to the north in Nevada, was a designated evacuation point. About 130 rooms are being used to house people for several days.
