New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on Thursday made a shock announcement that she had "no more in the tank" to lead the country and would step down and not seek re-election. Hipkins was confirmed Sunday as New Zealand's next prime minister. He chose Carmel Sepuloni as his deputy, marking the first time a person with Pacific Island heritage has risen taken the post.
