Some 200,000 people have now fled Sudan to escape fighting that erupted in mid-April, in addition to hundreds of thousands who have been displaced inside the country, says UN refugee agency spokesperson Olga Sarrado. SOUNDBITE
At least 272 people have died in fighting between South Sudan's rival factions in the capital Juba in recent days, as heavy gunfire erupts again in the city and residents seek shelter at a U.N. base. Mana Rabiee reports.

Palestinian mourners gather for the funeral of three people killed in Jenin in an Israeli air strike on their vehicle. The Israeli military said it had "eliminated" Ahmed Barakat, who it accused of a May 2023 attack that killed an Israeli settler. Jenin and its adjacent refugee camp are a stronghold of armed Palestinian groups opposing Israel, which has occupied the West Bank since 1967.
