Ukraine's top diplomat calls for the UN Security Council to convene an emergency meeting following the partial destruction of the strategically important Russian-held Kakhovka dam in southern Ukraine. "Ukraine calls an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council and brings the issue of the Russian terrorist act to the International Atomic Energy Agency's Board of Governors," Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba says in a statement. Numerous diplomats, led by the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations Office at Geneva Yevheniia Filipenko, walk out of the room as Russia's Foreign minister Sergei Lavrov addresses the UN Human Rights Council. The Ukrainian envoy says that this action "sends a very strong signal to the Russian Federation that such actions are not acceptable". IMAGES
French president Emmanuel Macron chairs a defence council at the Elysée Palace in Paris as Russia's offensive continues in Ukraine. It comes after Russian president Vladimir Putin's threat to use nuclear weapons. Europe is now set to supply arms to Kiev. IMAGES
NATO forces cross the Vistula River at Korzeniewo in Poland as part of the US-led defence alliance's Exercise Dragon 24, involving around 4,500 soldiers and almost 1,000 vehicles. Dragon 24 is itself part of Exercise Steadfast Defender 24, NATO's largest military exercise since the Cold War, which is designed to test its defences in the face of Russia's war on Ukraine. IMAGES
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken uses a UN Security Council session attended by his Russian counterpart to accuse Moscow of crimes against humanity in Ukraine. "Russia is committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Ukraine on a daily basis," Blinken tells the session earlier addressed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. SOUNDBITE
