The 2023 Shanghai Auto Show is opening its doors for an electrifying new edition and Maserati is thrilled to show the world its latest full-electric creations, marking the historic moment of being the first Italian luxury brand to produce 100% electric vehicles.And of course, China is the cradle of this fascinating and exciting revolution mobility – not only in terms of innovation but also of forward-thinking and embedded interest in the luxury market – and the ideal venue for the global premiere of Maserati Grecale Folgore.On this special occasion, the Trident’s first full-electric SUV is in good company, alongside the new Maserati GranTurismo. The powerful and timeless coupé has been introduced to the Asian market for the first time in its combustion engine and its electric powertrain version, the GranTurismo Folgore.The future of electrification is rooted in China. Folgore is the name of the Trident’s electric range and represents innovation, luxury, functional beauty and the vision that unites the past and the future in the name of Maserati’s incomparable style. The 2023 Shanghai Auto Show is therefore the ideal meeting point between the Asian market and the brand, to remark on and enhance the concept of “Italian luxury performance”, at the dawn of a new era.Electrification will play a key role in Maserati’s future strategy, with a commitment to produce electric versions of all its models by 2025 and full-electric vehicles alone by 2030. It is an ambitious plan that reflects the audacity that has always defined the Trident's DNA, driving it forwards towards the future, where its success will rely on its uniquely Italian character, its ability to arouse emotions with quality and exclusive products, and the magic of innovation. All this is exactly what the automotive industry will require in the future.
The new Maserati Grecale SUV is “The Everyday Exceptional”.Grecale strikes the right balance between versatility, elegance, performance and innovation, guaranteeing performance, comfort and safety, all at the same time. These features are combined with off-road capabilities and uncompromising driving pleasure.Developed at the Maserati Innovation Lab in Modena, the new SUV is produced at the Cassino plant.Grecale is a range within the range, the Trident brand’s fullest ever.An extremely wide range of engines is available: conventional internal combustion, hybrid and, in a year’s time, Grecale will also be the first full-electric SUV in Maserati history.Three versions will be rolled out at launch: GT, powered by a four-cylinder mild hybrid engine capable of delivering 300 hp; Modena, with a four-cylinder 330-hp mild hybrid engine; and the powerful Trofeo, equipped with a high-performance 3.0L 530-hp petrol V6 based on the Nettuno engine fitted to the MC20.
Testing continues on the Grecale prototypes, this time in the cold of the Swedish glades where they have delivered their maximum power in extreme conditions and on very low grip surfaces.Not even snow and ice can hinder the Grecale’s energy: during the mission the prototypes were tested to fine-tune their start-up and driveability at extreme temperatures, to check the vehicle dynamics on mixed surfaces of tarmac, snow and ice, and to maintain in-car comfort in all weather conditions, varying from a few degrees above zero to as low as -30°C in Lapland.Tests were also carried out to fine-tune the car's traction, understeer and oversteer in different drive modes and with varying sizes and types of wheels, to specifically characterise each of the driving modes on offer.Even in extreme conditions, the Grecale extols its exceptional soul on low grip handling tracks, completing high-performance laps on various circuits, from steering pads to more demanding routes featuring corners, slopes, long straights and drops, on snowy or icy surfaces.Grecale is the everyday exceptional even in freezing temperatures on expanses of snow as far as the eye can see.
In a show full of energy and immersed in an atmosphere that evokes transformation, innovative momentum, ingenuity, creative inspiration, and a whole new experience that anticipates an exciting new journey into the future, Maserati staged “Made in Thunder”, an overture to the Folgore, the new 100% electric chapter of the House of the Trident.Elegant, attractive, with a sporty and adventurous character, a harmonious and gritty synthesis of all that is innovation, without sacrificing the pleasure of a car with the utmost comfort and distinctive craftsmanship, GranCabrio Folgore is the first 100% electric convertible in the luxury segment and the fastest on the market. After the GranTurismo Folgore, the brand's first fully electrified icon, and the Grecale Folgore, the first 100% electric SUV in the Trident’s history, the new open-top Maserati completes the Modena-based company's current full-electric offering.With its new ‘creature’, the offspring of the most overwhelming force of innovation, Maserati is once again a pioneer and forerunner in the automotive world, where electrification now sets the boundaries and rules, interpreted and set out by the Italian luxury brand with its timeless creations that can reconcile the brand’s powerful DNA according to new, contemporary stylistic, technological and engineering inspirations.The show continued with speeches from Klaus Busse and Davide Grasso. The Maserati Head of Design led the audience on a voyage of discovery of the beauty and spirit of the GranCabrio Folgore, which for its debut sported the exclusive Liquid Rose Gold colour, Titan Grey soft top and sophisticated Denim and Ice interiors, with contrasting stitching – a jewel of the Maserati Fuoriserie customisation programme. He told the story of the car's distinctive features, from its captivating design and amazing performance to the unmistakable signature of the Folgore sound and the incredible tech specs derived from Formula E cars, shared with Maserati for mass production.Alongside a group of representatives from the Maserati Family, Maserati's Chief Executive Officer then took the reins of the show for the final farewell, thanking the guests for coming and bearing witness to Maserati's new electric future. Recalling how the thunderous, harmonious encounter and clash between art and science has for centuries generated and inspired the search for excellence inherent in the Italian DNA, and how the same impetus has always featured in Maserati's work and spirit, Davide Grasso noted that there could be no Maserati without Italy, even in the new electric chapter of the brand’s history, as he officially welcomed in the new era.Folgore is the voice of Maserati's future, a thunder that infuses new energy and ignites the future of the brand.
