A 15-metre long sperm whale has died after being stranded on an Argentine beach, despite rescue efforts by dozens of people.
People on the beach in Athens, in the coastal suburb of Palio Faliro, attempt to rescue a small stranded whale. Live whale sightings are rare in Athens, though whale carcasses occasionally wash up, mainly in Greek islands.
A stranded humpback whale is rescued alive off Argentina's Atlantic coast at the seaside resort of La Lucila del Mar, 360 kilometres south of Buenos Aires. The whale is one of two stranded whales saved by a team of 30 people including local residents, marine environmentalists, members of the Civil Defence, coastguard police, volunteer firefighters and beach lifeguards.
