AFCON daily: Burkina Faso reaches knockout stages, Cape Verde left in suspense

Description

Group A wraps up their matches with a series of 1-1 draws that sees Burkina Faso and Cameroon move on to the knockout stage, sends Ethiopia home, and keeps Cape Verde in suspense. Ghana and Senegal are among the teams from Groups B and C that will be fighting to secure their place on Tuesday. History will also be made as a game between Zimbabwe and Guinea is officiated by an all-female group of referees. Alison Sargent gets the latest from James Vasina and Simon Harding in Cameroon.

    Senegal continued their quest to win the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time with a 2-0 victory over Cape Verde. The Blue Sharks had two players sent off while Senegal’s Sadio Mané scored but was subbed for a concussion. Elsewhere, Morocco secured a 2-1 win over Malawi with two goal of the tournament contenders in the match.
