Description

Facing difficult conditions, the Porsche GT Team has achieved its third win of the season in the FIA World Endurance Championship WEC. At the six-hour race in Bahrain, Frenchman Kévin Estre and Neel Jani from Switzerland in the No. 92 Porsche 911 RSR narrowly beat their works driver colleagues Gianmaria Bruni from Italy and Austrian Richard Lietz. Thanks to the one-two result in the Kingdom of Bahrain on the Persian Gulf, Porsche has moved into the lead of the manufacturers’ championship before the final round of the season. In the GTE-Am class, the customer teams Dempsey-Proton Racing and Project 1 claimed podium steps with their ca. 515 PS nine-eleven cars.

  • Porsche at Rolex 24 in Daytona (USA) - Leading into the night

The Porsche GT Team was rewarded for a strong performance with a place on the podium at the 24 Hours of Daytona. Under difficult conditions on the Daytona International Speedway, the two Porsche 911 RSR racers achieved positions three and five. The sports cars from Weissach had clearly dominated the first half of the long-distance classic. However, heavy rain, numerous caution phases, interruptions and incidents threw the two factory cars in the legendary Brumos design into a rainy game of chance in the final hours. The new Porsche 911 GT3 R achieved eighth place at its race debut. Heading into the race on Saturday afternoon (local time) in dry conditions, Nick Tandy (Great Britain) made perfect use of his pole position, with the No. 911 Porsche 911 RSR holding the lead over many laps. His French teammates Patrick Pilet and Frédéric Makowiecki retained the top spot into the night. Torrential rain early on Sunday morning proved to be a watershed moment in a perfect race. With deep water on the track, the 911 of the polesitter fell back into fifth place.

  • The Porsche G model - the 911 boasts technical innovations

On November 27th, the eighth generation of the Porsche 911 will celebrate its world premiere in Los Angeles - 55 years after the debut of the original 911 model. This is a good reason to take a look back at the previous seven generations. The 911 entered its tenth year in 1973 - with the most far-reaching changes that Porsche had made to its successful model series so far. The Stuttgart-based car manufacturer used powerful turbo engines in its top model and a galvanized body for every vehicle. In addition, they launched a Cabriolet version of the 911 as well as the Speedster and the Targa. Its path to becoming an icon was already clearly laid.

  • Porsche Classic Project Gold

"A classic body is the starting point for a vehicle that will ultimately become a truly unique piece – assembled in the Porsche Classic workshop and individualized by the sports car manufacturer's designers. Porsche Newsroom accompanies the ""Project Gold"" right from the start throughout the individual production steps. The series starts with ""the Vision"". Back then, hollow-spoke aluminium wheels were an innovation in the automotive industry. Today, high-tech meets craftsmanship. When adding the finishing touches to the black rims as part of “Classic Project Gold”, the top coat of black paint is precisely removed using a laser, thereby mapping out the golden lines of the design. The Newsroom offers a glimpse behind the scenes of this extraordinary work step. Created by the designers at Style Porsche – implemented by the experts from the Porsche Classic workshop. The seats and interior fittings are painstakingly covered with leather by hand in the dedicated saddlery, where the precise finish is rounded off in black leather with gold appliqué detail. The bodyshell is treated by cathodic dip painting at the Porsche plant, which gives it the same high-end body coating as current series models. This process takes just a few hours but construction of this unique vehicle takes around one and a half years in total."

  • Porsche Top 5 - Superlative speed

The Porsche Top 5 series turns its attention to speed. Episode two sets out to resolve the question of all questions: which of the sports car manufacturer’s models is the fastest?#5 Porsche 911 Turbo S. The first to appear is the Porsche 911 Turbo S – a sports car that masters the balancing act between everyday driveability and breathtaking acceleration. Its 3.8-litre turbo horizontally opposed engine in the rear produces 580hp. Speeds of over 300km/h are no problem for this high-performance athlete.#4 Porsche Carrera GT. The 911 is subsequently overtaken by none other than the Carrera GT. Its 612hp V10 engine accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in a mere 3.9 seconds, emphasising the racing genes of this legendary super sports car. It is also the first standard-production vehicle whose monocoque chassis and subframe are made entirely of carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP).#3 Porsche 959 S. For the next candidate, we take another step back in history: the Porsche 959 S. In the mid-1980s, the Porsche 959 was the first model to be nicknamed “super sports car”. The reason: a 2.8-litre six-cylinder horizontally opposed engine made the 959 the world’s fastest sports car. The 959 S took this to yet another level. The 29 units produced generated even more power - up to 515hp.#2 Porsche 911 GT2 RS. The next nominee brings spectators back to the present day: the Porsche 911 GT2 RS. This two-time Nürburgring-Nordschleife record-holder is pure motorsport for the road, and also demonstrates its strengths on the long straights. The 700hp slumbering within its 3.2-litre horizontally opposed engine catapult the driver from 0 to 100km/h in just 2.8 seconds.#1 Porsche 918 Spyder. In the lead, however, is another record-holder. The 918 Spyder shows just what its combined hybrid power of 887hp can achieve. With an acceleration from 0 to 100km/h in only 2.6 seconds, it’s no surprise that the 918 Spyder wins this Top 5 ranking.
