Colombo, Sep 22 (EFE/EPA).- Sri Lanka's health workers staged a protest Wednesday demanding proper facilities and protective equipment needed for Covid -19 related works, additional allowance for overtime work, and special Covid -19 allowance. The trade union action was carried out in most government hospitals throughout the country, according to the relevant trade unions. With the third wave of the pandemic hitting Sri Lanka, health workers too have engaged in a series of protests and demonstrations advancing their demands while the government has not positively responded to their claims. Colombo, Aug 18 (EFE/EPA).- The Sri Lankan government has imposed an island-wide midnight quarantine curfew from 10 pm to 4 am until further notice in order to slow down the spread of the coronavirus. According to health authorities in Sri Lanka, 171 Covid-19 deaths were reported in Sri Lanka on August 17, the highest number recorded in a day. Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Medical Association has called on the government to close the country for at least two weeks to prevent an increase in Covid-19 patients.
