Alpine 50 shades of blue - an iconic colour in motion

Description

Close your eyes a moment and imagine you’re gazing at an Alpine! There’s every chance you will picture it in blue. In the collective subconscious, that is the colour most readily associated with Renault Group’s sports car brand as a result of its use for race, rally and road cars over a period of decades. But, as Design Director Antony Villain explains, there isn’t just one Alpine Blue…Yet blue was by no means the finish of choice in the early days. When founder Jean Rédélé first presented his early production to the then-Renault CEO Pierre Dreyfus at the Régie’s headquarters near Paris in 1955, he showed up with one blue car, one white and a third in red. Then, when he made his first steps in motorsport behind the wheel of the diminutive A106, his steeds were either white or light blue. At the time, red, white and yellow were more popular than blue for Alpine’s road cars. Furthermore, the diminutive A106s that Rédélé ran in motorsport were either white or light blue.

  • 2019 New Renault ZOE Z.E. 50 in Celadon Blue Colour tests drive in Sardinia

Renault’s electric runabout has been on the market since 2012 – with a big update in 2016 – so time has come for the Zoe to make the transition to a thoroughly revised version. Judging solely by the exterior styling, some would be tempted to say it’s more of the same, but in reality, the zero-emissions city car has gone through quite a few changes to better rival new competition coming from the Peugeot e-208 and the Opel Corsa-e.Growing from a 22-kWh battery pack of the original version to a 41-kWh setup of the Zoe Z.E. 40 launched a couple of years ago, the Zoe is now getting an even larger 52-kWh pack. Known as the Zoe Z.E. 50, the pint-sized EV can travel for as much as 390 kilometers (242 miles) on a single charge based on the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP), which is 20 percent more than before. To “fill up” the battery pack, the charging socket remains hidden behind the Renault logo on the front grille where you’ll find both the type-2 socket for AC charging and the two-pin connector for DC charging for up to 50 kW. A full recharge takes 9 hours and 25 minutes from a 7kW wallbox or 8 hours if you estimate around 306 kilometers (190 miles) of charge will be enough for your next trip.

  • Lamborghini unlocks the mystery of the colour blue with ‘Opera Unica’ Huracán Sterrato

Lamborghini’s dedication to design, innovative technology and high performance is well established. The company recently unveiled the “Opera Unica” Huracán Sterrato, a one-off finished in a unique triple-layer crystal-effect paint specially developed by the ground-breaking Ad Personam department. The only limit here is arguably the one imposed by the client’s imagination. But how much do we really know about colour itself? For an exclusive new film, Beyond Colour – No Colour Is More Mysterious than Blue, Lamborghini invited world-renowned art historian James Fox to the Italian island of Sardinia, whose famously blue skies and crystal clear waters inspired the paint treatment showcased on the new car.
