The Russian Defence Ministry releases images of Russian troops loading up and boarding military planes on their way to Kazakhstan and armoured vehicles in transit, after the Kazakh government appealed for help. Long seen as one the most stable of the ex-Soviet republics of Central Asia, energy-rich Kazakhstan is facing its biggest crisis in decades after days of protests over rising fuel prices escalated into widespread unrest. Russia’s Ministry of Defence released footage showcasing its latest military equipment and weapons. The weapons were first announced during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s Annual Presidential Address to the Federal Assembly on 1 March.
This huge beast of a truck is currently performing very important work for EMERCOM, the Russian Emergency Ministry. It's the start of ice fishing season on Moscow's Strogino Beach, and EMERCOM estimates that up to 200 people fish on the frozen river every day. EMERCOM called in the Snegobolotohod, an all-terrain vehicle with wheels 4 feet in diameter that can even swim in water, to patrol the beach and look for people in need of saving. Literally translated, Snegobolotohod means machine that can traverse snow and swamps. The Snegobolotohod has a 1.5 litre Kubota V1505 four-cylinder diesel engine, which enables it to reach up to 30 mph on land. It can climb barriers over two feet high and, apart from keeping the Snegobolotohod afloat in water, its four large wheels can turn 360 degrees.
During a press conference on his two-day state visit to Sweden, French President Emmanuel Macron says that "the cost of a Russian victory is too high for all of us" and that Europe must support Ukraine "whatever it takes, whatever it costs." SOUNDBITE
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg says Ukraine is still inflicting major losses on Russia, despite Kyiv not managing to regain captured territory. "Of course we would like them to to liberate as much territory as possible, as quickly as possible, but even though the frontline has not moved, the Ukrainians have been able to inflict heavy losses on the Russian invaders," he says.
