On the final leg of a state visit to Kenya, Queen Camilla visits the Situation Room, which provides services for survivors of sexual and gender based violence. She is shown survivor kits that provide personal and hygiene items and hears about the kinds of therapy provided to victims. Before leaving, Camilla is presented with a Kanga (a Swahili shawl). On their last day in Kenya, after visiting Fort Jesus, a 400-year-old UNESCO World Heritage site in Mombasa's Old Town, King Charles III and Queen Camilla try out a tuk tuk, a popular three-wheeled transport used in the country. Heavy rainfall derailed plans for the royal couple to ride in the vehicle, so instead they briefly posed for photographs while seated inside. IMAGES
King Charles III and Queen Camilla head to Mtongwe Naval Base in Mombasa onboard the Admiral’s Barge, on the third day of their state visit to Kenya. On arrival at the base the royal couple is welcomed by President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto, followed by a guard of honour inspected by the British Monarch, who is the Captain General of the Royal Marines. En route out of Nairobi National Park, King Charles III and Queen Camilla visit the park’s ivory burning site, an historic location where 12 tonnes of ivory were burnt by the former Kenyan President Daniel Arap Moi in 1989. Most of it was intercepted before entering the market, stored, then burnt to show Kenya’s commitment to the conservation of elephants, and zero tolerance to the ivory trade. IMAGES
Queen Camilla, on the second day of a royal tour to Kenya, visits the equine welfare charity Brooke. Her Majesty, who is the president of the charity finds out how it is working in rescuing donkeys at risk and promoting their welfare. She talks to the personnel and pets the animals, before meeting local vendors at a farmers’ market in the area, where community members present her with a cloak made of an east African fabric called shuka.
